Alim Impact day

Today we shared our Alim results and presentations of how it ran in our schools.

Here is the slideshow I presented.

We then did some fun activities that involved group work and collaborating...  this was when we got into groups of 4 and raced to circle numbers in order... (look on Diane's slide show for the sheet)

A TASK to get every group to look like this Day 3 of school.

If I am going to get students to talk every day of class, then I need to teach them how to work in groups and teach them how to talk to one another.  This is my goal week one of school.  Lots of years ago, Beth Esposito gave me this task (I think it is an AVID task) that I’ve adapted.  It is magic.  It makes groups look like the pics above with little effort on my part.  I’ve used this activity in both middle and high school and it works great at both levels.  Here is the task.  I call it the 100# task.
Other teachers then discussed good websites they have used.

Diane shared https://mathforlove.com/ website with her tiny polka dot game.

Staff meeting around strategic planning with Sue Holmes

First we all did a kahoot to see what we know about our school and the curriculum.
This was a good way to highlight that we really need to look at the front of the curriculum document again.

You will know you are successful when you have:

  • Understood what is involved in developing a local curriculum
  • identified the priorities from initial scoping/leadership meetings
  • Recalled key elements from the front end of NZC

It was good to hear that we need to make sure when teaching that "the long view is taken: each students ultimate learning success is more important than the covering of particular achievement objectives"  Pg 39

Sue was working with Diane and they highlighted areas that we need to work on and areas we are already achieving.

Discussing around our community involvement consultation is very important.
